Visit Colmar, one of Alsace’s most beautiful towns
Colmar is renowned for the beauty of its traditional houses, its lively neighborhoods and its richly flavored gastronomy. During your camping holiday in the Vosges, discover the ” capital of Alsace wines “.
Discover Colmar’sin Colmar
Romantic, colorful and legendary – these are just some of the words that describe Colmar. The ” Little Venice ” district is extremely charming, with its canals and colorful half-timbered houses lining the river. Boat trips allow you to explore this jewel of Colmar.
The Quai de la Poissonnerie, a former fishermen’s quarter, also boasts typical Alsatian architecture. At every turn, the city’s architecture catches the eye. Admire the Dominican church and the Gothic collegiate church of Saint-Martin. You’ll also see a number of sites paying tribute to Colmar-born Auguste Bartholdi, creator of the Statue of Liberty, among other works. A museum dedicated to the artist has been set up in his birthplace on rue des Marchands.
And don’t miss the Pfister house at no. 11 on the same street. Built in 1537, it is a fine example of Renaissance architecture in Colmar. Another of the town’s curiosities is the Maison des Têtes in the street of the same name. The façade of this historic monument is adorned with 106 grotesque heads or masks.
Finally, discover Colmar’s covered market. This authentic venue features local Alsatian products (wines, cheeses, cookies, etc.) and gourmet specialties such as flammekueche, kouglof and sauerkraut.

Family activities in and around Colmar
Colmar’s special climate is ideal for growing vines. The Alsace wine route, which passes through Colmar, takes you through the vineyards of local winemakers and picturesque villages. Your first stop is Ammerschwihr, a village steeped in history that was destroyed during the Second World War.
A few kilometers further north, Kaysersberg, voted France’s favorite village in 2017, welcomes you. Then, in Riquewihr, in addition to its beautiful vineyards, visit the gingerbread house and the postal museum.
Colmar and the surrounding area also boast an extensive network of cycle paths and hiking trails. From family outings to sporty hikes, there’s something for everyone! The tourist office also offers a range of guided tours on electric bikes. For example, the “ vineyard discovery ” guided tour includes a stop and wine tasting at a local winemaker’s.
If you like to discover the region’s products, explore the Vosges valley of Munster, famous for its famous cheese, but also for its landscapes of lakes, forests and vast meadows. The Kaysersberg valley, 10 minutes from Colmar, is also well worth a visit. Visit its typical villages and castles, explore its wide-open spaces on foot or by bike, and enjoy some fine wines…from Alsace, of course!
